I am writing to you with an update regarding our union pursual of a better Work Sharing policy for Fingal Staff. During the Summer Fórsa surveyed staff working in Fingal on whether you supported a review of the current Work Sharing eligibility criteria.
92% of staff agreed that a review of the eligibility criteria was necessary. A further 98% agreed that Fingal should introduce "Assisting in meeting an individuals circumstance" into the Work Sharing eligibility criteria.
What our Members Said
As part of our survey, we asked you why the issue of Work Sharing matters. Most respondents agreed that the issue of amending the eligibility criteria was about fairness and parity with other Local Authorities. One member commented that: "It is fair & does not discriminate. All staff should have the same opportunities to avail of." Another respondent noted that: "Amending this policy overall would make Fingals work sharing policy more empathetic, modern, inclusive, and more worker friendly. I would be incredibly disappointed and disheartened to see no change in this."
Next Steps
Fórsa were advised earlier this week that the issue of Work Sharing eligibility criteria is now under consideration by management. We anticipate receiving an update next week, and a meeting will be scheduled in the coming weeks to discuss Work Sharing. Updates will issue to members on this important matter as soon as new information is available.
