An emergency meeting between the taoiseach Micheál Martin and Aer Lingus was called during the summer following a heated exchange of emails between the airline’s executives and Eamon Ryan, the transport minister.

The meeting, scheduled for 11.30am, took place at 4pm on July 30, after Lynne Embleton, Aer Lingus’s new chief executive, sent an email to Ryan raising “serious concerns” around the “lack of understanding” within the Department of Transport over “the scale of the crisis faced by the aviation sector”.

Ryan rejected the claim, according to recorded minutes released to The Sunday Times under the Freedom of Information Act. Ryan attended the meeting alongside junior transport minister Hildegarde Naughton and the taoiseach.
