The Department of Health last evening confirmed a further 24 deaths from Covid-19 along with 107 new cases of the virus in Ireland, bringing the total number of deaths in Ireland to 1,488.


Ryanair's plans to restore 40 percent of its services from July 1st has raised a lot of questions about how they will be managed. Barry O'Halloran asks the important questions in this piece.

 

Minister for Education Joe McHugh will face questions in the Dáil later today on Leaving Certificate calculated grades, planning for the reopening of schools, and the plight of children with disabilities under lockdown. The meeting is most likely to focus on discussing details of how teachers will manage marking and ranking their students.

 

The National Bus and Rail Union has called on the government to refocus funding for the Bus Connects and Metrolink projects elsewhere, in light of challenges faced by the transport sector due to social distancing guidelines. NBRU says there will need to be significant changes to public transport systems to accommodate even reduced levels of morning and evening commuters.

 

A survey of over 350 industry participants by the Construction Industry Federation found that around two thirds of participants had been forced to lay off staff either temporarily or permanently. Half of the participating organizations also said they had availed of government grants, with eight in ten of those availing of the wage subsidy scheme.

 

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has said that children are not substantially contributing to the spread of coronavirus. HIQA said that one study found that while there was a high transmission of Covid-19 in adults aged 25 years or older, transmission was lower in those under 14.

 

The Eurovision Song Contest will mark what should have been the first semi-final of the competition with a virtual ‘song celebration’ tonight on their youtube channel.
