ICTU published its response yesterday to the Government’s National Resilience and Recovery Plan, and you read the full statement here.

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach is set to meet today, Wednesday, to resume examination of the processes and procedures regarding the determination of remuneration of senior public servants, in the context of the recent salary increase approved for the new Secretary General of the Department of Health.

And the Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will also be meeting with representatives of Aer Lingus today to discuss the challenges facing the aviation industry and the recent announcements relating to Shannon and Cork airports. But it has been reported a potential row may be threatening to derail the meeting where the airline will rule out reversing the planned closure of its Shannon Airport base.

Further on aviation, Ryanair is set to double its capacity to 1.3 million seats a week in Europe, but not expanding in the Republic, as further evidence of air travel’s recovery emerges.

New research published by the Irish Human Rights and Equality and the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) found that Ireland’s young workers were six times more likely to be on Temporary Contracts than those aged over 25. It also sets out how people with disabilities, Travellers and East European migrants are at much higher risk of disadvantage around employment, and have less access to what the International Labour Organisation defines as decent work.

Experts from the COVID-19 Law and Human Rights Observatory at Trinity College have called for Ireland to put the right of its workers to disconnect into binding legislation to safeguard against the working culture of “constant availability” and the damaging consequences that can have for well-being.

And here’s a look at this morning’s front pages.

Finally, our zen marks this day in 1984 when Wham! had their first UK No.1 with 'Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.' Written and produced by George Michael, one half of the duo, the inspiration for the song was a scribbled note left by his Wham! partner Andrew Ridgeley for Andrew's parents, originally intended to read "wake me up before you go" but with "up" accidentally written twice, so Ridgeley wrote "go" twice on purpose. Enjoy!
