On Friday Fórsa announced the ceasing of industrial action at the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority, following an agreement that will allow the Authority to attend the Labour Court under binding arbitration.

On Saturday the Irish Times reported that the Government’s efforts to "contain the turmoil sparked by the rising cost of living have run into immediate trouble as unions press for significant pay increases in the private and public sectors," and in his new job at RTE Brian O'Donovan asks if pay rises can provide a seawall against the erosion of inflation.

Donegal media outlets were reporting over the weekend that members of Fórsa's Donegal local government branch  have been formally instructed to have no further interaction with councillor Frank McBrearty following recent statements and communications issued by the councillor on social media.

The HSE meanwhile has refuted claims it has "fake targets" for recruiting, and that weekend media reports about financial oversight contain a "serious slur" on staff. The claims were part of a lengthy front page report in the Business Post yesterday.

The Post also reports on a row between an American sheet metal workers’ union and Kingspan. The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (Smart) has refused to withdraw a report on the Grenfell Tower inquiry that Kingspan claims is defamatory.

Elsewhere in the Post there's news that competition to retain skilled digital staff means that salaries at tech firms in Ireland will rise by 12% this year. As Wales considers a four day week, Passive Dynamics, an engineering consultancy in Dublin, has introduced a nine-day fortnight model to the company that gives employees every second Friday off.
