Public sector pay talks are set to resume next month as the WRC issued invitations to both sides to return to discussions. On the same day negotiators from ICTU agreed to mount a coordinated campaign on public service pay including possible industrial action. Kevin Callinan spoke on RTE news at one saying that unions were prepared to do 'whatever it takes' to achieve adequate pay increases. Less than half of young workers currently have the option of hybrid/blended working while 77% of those would like the option. This is according to new research conducted by Deloitte Ireland. Half the young workforce also plan to leave their current jobs in the next two years in search of a better work-life balance.

 

Ministers failed to to reach an agreement on an emissions reduction target for the agriculture sector as it was revealed that the Government did not implement half of its measures in its climate action plan during the second quarter of the year. A progress report on the Climate Action Plan, found that just 45% of the measures due to be taken in April, May and June were actually implemented.

 

Fears of a global slowdown are filtering through to the Irish business community as Ibec warns that growth will fall sharply next year. In its latest economic outlook, Ibec says consumers and companies are ”pressing pause” on spending and investment next year, as they feel the pinch. According to Ibec chief economist Gerard Brady 'The Irish economy is at a turning point'.

 

Remedial work on 'defective homes' built during the boom could cost up to 2.5 billion and will take many years according to a report commissioned by Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien. The report also found that a general industry levy is not 'feasible' as it would target those who did not cause the problem.

 

Micheal Martin has admitted to the Irish Mirror he worries about the impact the hosuing crisis will have on his own children as he expressed concern over young people not being able to afford to buy in cities they were born in.
