The Cabinet is set to approve an €0.80 rise to the minimum wage, bringing it to €11.30 per hour from the beginning of next year. Tánaiste Leo Varadkar will bring a recommendation from the Low Pay Commission to Government this morning.

 

But ICTU members of the Low Pay Commission opposed its recommendation, stating the rise should be higher.

 

Every woman in Ireland between the ages of 17 and 25 can avail of free contraception from today, which will not be linked to having a medical card. More on that here.

The strikes as part of the Valuing Care, Valuing Community campaign to highlight the demand for a first pay rise in 14 years for workers in the sector continue to gain traction in local media.

 

Pat Leahy of the Times writes Ireland’s share of EU levies on windfall revenues currently flowing to energy companies would be used to provide “direct support” to citizens and businesses under Government plans to be unveiled at the budget later this month.

 

And San Francisco based tech company Patreon has announced that it is closing its Dublin office, just three years after opening in the capital. Patreon, which is a membership platform that helps entertainers sell their work to subscribers online, is also set to close its Berlin office.
