The Government is giving renewed consideration to the introduction of pre-budget tax breaks for the rental sector just a week after deciding against them. Elsewhere nearly 27,000 new housing units will be delivered this year, according to the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland.

The Times reports that Siptu is to ballot members working in the country’s water services on industrial action in two weeks’ time.

 

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has called on the Minister for Justice to intervene in its dispute with the Garda Commissioner on the issue of rosters.

 

Across the water Britain’s unemployment rate remained unchanged in January, but there are further signs of cracks in the jobs market after official figures showed a fall in vacancies and an increase in redundancies.
