Brexit TV…not sure the EU can limit how much people consume when a lot of it is streamed, these days. The old Fawlty Towers line “you started it” line might get a few runs.

Mindless thuggery is mindless thuggery. The DJ was entirely correct to record a conviction and not apply the Probation Act. In fact, one could argue these “men”, given their status as sporting role models, had even more of a duty to lead by example.
There is simply no excuse for this crime – raining down punches on a man trying to protect an elderly man from these same apes. You do have to wonder about the background of these young apes and what caused them to act with such violence. The victim’s ordeal was further exacerbated by feral supporters of these apes who tried to make the whole ordeal somehow his fault. This is about as far away from “boys will be boys” as you can get.
They’ll appeal of course – a full de novo hearing in the Circuit. Whatever the outcome, Judge Waters has done the right thing by recording a conviction.
Can a Da?
Why do you feel it is necessary to label other human beings apes?

Things got heated in London yesterday as Alexander Boris de Pfeffel extended the lockdown. A lot of talk of ‘cases’ but as of week ending 13 June- there was 8 fatalities, which in the grand scheme of things is nothing.

The lab leak theory is the most likely, as its now being investigated by the Biden admin, they won’t find much as China scrubbed the crime scene at the lab. (a criminal action under international science labs which have accidents)
The former head of the CDC said it came from a lab, he’s a virology expert. He also said it was partially engineered.
There is up to now ZERO evidence of animal to human covid 19 transmission (highly unusual in cases were this happened before). There never was any evidence of it. It was a fake theory put forward by the CCP. The US media now accepts that in the majority. They refused to accept this theory last year because Trump said something similar. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Cian
Just because there is a possibility is was a lab leak, and they are investigating this, doesn’t make it either (a) fact, or (b) more likely. It just means they are investigating it.
Covid-19 is a virus from bats. (it may have been engineered, but there is no conclusive evidence to support that).
Covid-19 may have entered Wuhan from a “lab leak”. But this doesn’t automatically mean it was an engineered virus, it may have been a natural virus that leaked.
I think the source of Covid-19 should be investigated.
Junkface
Why ask the experts on anything Cian? Their experience in this particular field means nothing, also the fact that the former CDC guy ran labs like this. Dr.Fauci has also been caught out on a lie about “gain of function research” labs, like the one in Wuhan that the US partially funded.
They actually collected bat viruses from north areas of China and brought them to Wuhan, boosted certain proteins in the virus, making it more transmissible, then accidentally leaked it, making 3 lab employees sick with the virus in Oct 2019. These are known and accepted reports now, based on information from other lab employees, citizen journalists who filmed outside the lab and hospital.
It has also come out that the scientists in the Wuhan lab did not complete the full virology safety certificates, they were fast tracked. This story keeps revealing more every week.
I’m amazed that anyone can still have the opinion that this virus did not come from a lab.
Plus! All virology scientists who have looked at this virus under a microscope have said that it looks engineered.
Cian
@junkface They actually collected bat viruses from north areas of China and brought them to Wuhan, boosted certain proteins in the virus, making it more transmissible, then accidentally leaked it, making 3 lab employees sick with the virus in Oct 2019. These are known and accepted reports now,
Can you show me the evidence for this, frankly astonishing if true, story? Specifically evidence that there was a leak , and that the leak was an engineered version of the virus.
All virology scientists who have looked at this virus under a microscope have said that it looks engineered.
Again, evidence for this. (also what kind of “virology scientist” uses a microscope to detect viral engineering? really – a microscope?)
If not, can you stop spreading lies and rumours as fact.
Nigel
In the end it may turn out to have leaked from the lab, but I don’t understand why people are so determined that it MUST have come from the lab, and its apparent corollary, it MUST have been engineered in the lab, while the idea that it came from the wild, the wild being the source of pretty much all known viruses in human history, is so unlikely as to be outrageous. Apparently people seem to think that discovering the source of a virus in vast swathes of mountain and jungle is obviously easier than tracing a leak from a controlled and monitored laboratory environment.
Junkface
@Cian
I am not spreading lies. This is now an accepted theory with many journalists worldwide taking up the case, but especially in Washington DC.
How am I spreading lies when I am a commenter on a news website, not a newspaper? Or a 24hour news channel? Get a grip!
I am also too busy to go digging up evidence for you, I have a job. Like I said before, there are numerable podcasts detailing events in Wuhan. You can go look for these podcasts with breaking news stories, or you can continue to bury your head in the sand and hope it goes away. A good source is Josh Rogin, he broke the story first over a month ago. I think Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi are also writing about it.

“This is now an accepted theory”
I agree. Theory.
But you have been stating these things as facts. There is a huge difference between facts and theory.
You said: “The former head of the CDC said it came from a lab”;
but the truth is “The former head of the CDC said he believes it came from a lab”
You said “All virology scientists who have looked at this virus under a microscope have said that it looks engineered.”
Any followup on that?
Thanks for the DW news report link. But is doesn’t support what you said it does. It is totally neurtal about the source of the virus. “In a statement, Biden said the majority of the US intelligence community had “coalesced” around two likely scenarios: that the virus was transmitted to humans via contact with an infected animal, or it emerged from a lab accident.
Some Biden administration officials have harbored strong doubts about the lab leak theory. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House chief medical adviser, said Wednesday that he and other scientists “believe that the most likely scenario is that this was a natural occurrence, but no one knows that 100% for sure.” “I believe we do need the kind of investigation where there’s open transparency and for all the information that’s available, to be made available and to scrutinize,” Fauci said at a Senate hearing.”

@Cian
You cannot find the definitive proof, if the main suspect has wiped the scene of the crime, forensically for a year, and then let the international observers take a restricted look at the lab. It’s the ultimate corruption you are dealing with, when you deal with China’s CCP.
We will never have the definitive proof. It’s almost impossible now. All we have is eye witness reports and shared lab emails and photos.
I don’t think you fully grasp the situation with China and how the CCP lie about everything! They never accept responsibility for anything. They will do anything to shift blame. That is what they have done since chairman Mao.
The world has to wake up to the threat China poses to our way of life. It’s governed by a mob who murders its own people at will, who commit genocide on the UIghur muslims, force its people into a social credit system, AI cameras everywhere, essentially a dystopian police state nightmare and openly threaten Taiwan’s existence with fighter jets.
We will have to agree to disagree, but I think the bat to humans transmission at the markets theory was actually more racist against Chinese culture than the lab leak theory. Here’s a comedy bit on the topic from Jon Stewart on the late show with Colbert. Very funny.

Tess Laurie’s peer reviewed paper on the use of Ivermectin for Covid-19 has just been published.
Conclusions:
Moderate-certainty evidence finds that large reductions in COVID-19 deaths are possible using ivermectin. Using ivermectin early in the clinical course may reduce numbers progressing to severe disease. The apparent safety and low cost suggest that ivermectin is likely to have a significant impact on the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic globally.
The data shows that out of all the RCTs of Ivermectin to date, only 15, including 3500 subjects in total are reported in a reliable enough manner to be subjected to meta-analysis. If you look at the figures, you’ll see that only 1 study shows an independent statistically significant impact of Ivermectin vs. death due to COVID19. No other endpoint reaches statistical significance. Yes, the meta-analysis shows trends towards positive impact for a range of other impacts of COVID19, but not with statistical significance, and indeed, very broad confidence intervals. Therefore, the only evidence-based conclusion which can note a positive impact of Ivermectin is that ‘Ivermectin appears to prevent death due to COVID19’. Is it proposed to make widespread application of a drug only because it might prevent some deaths? Shouldn’t useful drugs prevent illness, time lost and transmission? All I see from this analysis is that the evidence from RCTs for Ivermectin isn’t very promising for COVID19. If you need to meta-analyse to get statistical significance you are in a very bad place in drug development.

There were 74,000 Covid deaths reported in 2020. There were 78,000 more deaths in 2020 than 2019.
Year Number of Deaths Crude death rate (per 100,000 population)
2020 608,002 1,016.20
2019 530,841 893.1
2018 541,589 916.1
2017 533,253 907.7
2016 525,048 899.3
