The Irish Times reports that the Government is to provide up to €72 million in funding that can be used by schools and childcare services to improve ventilation as part of efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Ann Marie Walsh reports in today's Indo that demands for pay rises, of at least 4%, across the private sector "will be considered by senior union leaders today as energy costs soar and the labour market tightens." Congress is to discuss soaring prices before issuing wage claim guidance for private sector workers next year. The same paper today includes a feature on paramedics.

Elsewhere, a UK case study on Kostal v Dunkley takes a look at what's described as a "costly lesson for employers seeking to bypass collective bargaining with their trade unions," and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is warning organisations about a new vulnerability in java code, which poses a “serious risk to the security and integrity of data.”

The Weekend

Further to the report included in Friday's digest, Congress published details of the IHREC's new Employers Guide to Hiring Asylum Seekers. Elsewhere, Dublin Live reports that unions are in a "stand-off" with RTE on an ongoing gender pay gap row “right up the scale," and the Business Post reports on the possibility that added years for senior civil servants may get the snip, as reported last week in the Indo.

The ST reports on a heated exchange between Aer Lingus and An Taoiseach last July about the level of State support for the airline, while the same paper reports that builder providers are warning of 'huge price hikes' for materials.

Zen

One of the funniest people on Irish Twitter (in my humble opinion) is comedian Seán Burke, and I really enjoyed his take here on TV popstar physicist Brian Cox. Even the man himself seems to have enjoyed it.

Have a great week.
