Workers' weekend
by Bernard Harbor

The National Public Health Emergency Team announced another 43 coronavirus-related deaths yesterday, bringing the total here to 1,232. Almost 360 confirmed new cases brought the overall figure to over 20,600. Yet reports of ministers pushing back against NPHET's advice abound in this morning's media.

On the economic front, the head of the European Central Bank has called on the EU to come up with an "ambitious and coordinated" fiscal response to the fall-out. Good, because Irish manufacturing output is plummeting and two-thirds of us are worried about money.

Meanwhile, the INMO has complained that not all its members have got new pay allowances, while the Indo goes large on (the lack of) ministerial pay cuts.

Here's some May Day Zen from Dick Gaughan.

Enjoy the trade union-delivered bank holiday weekend.
