Here's the news:

 

Fórsa has commenced preparations to ballot members in five Section 39 employments following the collapse of talks on pay restoration in August. Fórsa will join Siptu, Unite and the INMO for a demonstration at the Department of Health next Tuesday (18th September).

 

The Examiner reports that the Government has announced an €11.9 billion investment in education. The funding promises a 70% increase in school capital funding over the next decade to build new schools and modernises existing ones.

 

RTÉ report that the Garda Representative Association (GRA) has warned of the danger of further industrial unrest because proposed new legislation on their employment rights is inadequate - particularly as it does not give them the right to strike.

 

The Mental Health Commission has announced that John Farrelly will become its new CEO on October 30th.

 

The Irish Times report that the Central Bank is considering loosening restrictions on credit unions providing home loans and mortgages.

 

The Times also reports the new Land Development Agency (LDA) says it is in talks with Government departments and State bodies about acquiring sites to build 7,000 new homes. Work on an initial 3,000 homes built by the LDA could start next year.
