A new €1 billion housing plan due to be unveiled by Cabinet today will aim to cut the cost of building homes, renovate more vacant properties and see a larger number of cost-rental apartments rolled out.

 

Around 1.3m people, including pensioners and lone parents, are set to receive cost-of-living supports from this week.

 

Cork University Hospital recorded the second-highest numbers on trolleys across the country on Monday, read more on that here. Meanwhile, The Examiner reports that delays in cancer treatment appointments have been blamed on lack of staff, with Siptu saying that there are120 fewer daily due to staff shortages.

 

The Times reports that State child and family agency Tusla is to maintain there was no information to suggest “evidence of systemic abuse” within St John Ambulance when it previously provided assurances about the first aid organisation.

 

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) is calling for mandatory minimum sentences for attacks on frontline emergency workers and for the Government to expedite the issuing of body cameras and tasers to all gardaí.

 

And finally, the new Junior Cycle curriculum will see schools to teach about gender identity and consent under the revised SPHE module.
