The gap between getting a second and third Covid jab has been halved to three months, as the spread of the Omicron variant means more HSE staff look set for redeployment to vaccine duties. Tighter restrictions may be on the way and, over the water, the NHS has been placed on a crisis footing.

On the plus side, the Cabinet looks set to sanction a €100 lecky bill credit for every household which, according to the Indo, will be paid direct to energy suppliers. It's not a gimmick, apparently.

Following yesterday's Indo scoop, many other titles follow up on the ICTU recommendation that private sector unions should seek pay rises of between 2.5% and 4.5% next year.

Elsewhere, a public consultation on pumping water from the Shannon to the east opens today, Dublin's housing crisis lacks low-hanging fruit, and a new ESRI study outlines the mental and physical health challenges that young people face.

Jane Birkin (75) shares a birthday with my sister Jane Price (not 75) today. That calls for a rare bit of romantic Zen.

Have a tolerable Tuesday.

Bernard.
