The National Public Health Emergency Team meets again today to consider its next move amid growing evidence that the spread of the cornavirus has been suppressed in communities, though not in nursing homes where there's more angst over staff shortages. Fórsa has this suggestion.

Yesterday's figures showed a massive 936 confirmed new cases (making a total of over 17,600) and 28 new deaths. Some 794 have now died, and Tony Holohan talked down expectations of an easing of restrictions at the NPHET briefing.

Meanwhile, leaving cert exams are set to start at the end of July, there's talk of more shops opening, and ICTU has complained that mothers returning from maternity leave can't get Covid payments.

As expected, EU leaders failed to agree a recovery package when they conference-called yesterday, though they'll keep talking. And Diarmaid Ferriter's Irish Times op-ed chimes with Kevin Callinan and Joe Cunnigham's Monday piece.

Finally, I read some Edward Thomas yesterday for the first time in ages, and I thought I'd Zen-share some with you. Here's The Owl.

More of that over the weekend, methinks. Have a good one.
