Deutsche Bank yesterday announced plans to cut up to 450 full-time and contractor roles at its Dublin office. The German bank said it plans to relocate just under 250 jobs from Dublin to its other centres around the world.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has confirmed that a subgroup on aviation has been created to look at the specific challenges facing aviation as a result of Covid-19. His comments came as Solidarity TD Mick Barry questioned him on Government plans to meet the trade unions to discuss the Cork Airport closure controversy and to keep airport workers on the books for the duration of the 10-week closure.

Healthcare workers have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of recognition for their efforts in the fight against Covid-19, such as a financial reward or additional leave. In a statement, the HSE staff panel of trade unions said they are seeking special recognition for staff since late last year. More on that here. 

Today is the last day that people can apply to receive the Pandemic Unemployment Payment. The social welfare scheme had been set to close to new entrants last week, but it was extended by seven days after the government decided to delay the reopening of indoor hospitality.

In good news, the HSE’s Covid-19 vaccine registration portal is now open for people aged 30-34. This is a registration for mRNA vaccines: Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna. Registration for this cohort had initially been planned for Friday, but the date was moved up to today.

Sticking with coronavirus news, people who are fully vaccinated will begin to receive their EU Covid-19 digital passes from next Monday 12 July which will allow them to travel within the EU.
