The ICTU delegate conference kicks off this morning. Catch up on proceedings here. In his address, incoming ICTU president Kevin Callinan has called for the introduction of a four-day working week.

 

Speaking on Morning Ireland ICTU General Secretary Patricia King said that the pandemic highlighted that often the workers who are most depended upon are under-valued and under-paid. She said it also highlighted the value of workers across the economy.

 

The Times reports on the cost of eliminating additional, unpaid working hours introduced for staff across the public service as part of austerity measures nearly a decade ago.

 

European energy ministers are holding a special meeting in Luxembourg to try to forge agreement on how to emerge from the current crisis in gas supplies and the knock-on effect to electricity prices, according to RTE.

 

RTE reports on the delay of the full return to offices following last week's announcement.

 

The construction sector will have new minimum pay rates from early next year after the Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail Damien English formally approved a recommendation from the Labour Court.
