Congress has responded to the media reports that An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar wants to see a phased return to offices in August rather than September and you can view that here. General Secretary Patricia King said that Congress was currently engaged in a consultation process through the Dept. of the Taoiseach relating to the “safe” return to work of thousands of workers who have adhered to current Public Health advice and worked from home for the past 15 months. 

 

The Indo reports that proposals to give all workers the legal right to paid sick leave from next year will be brought to the Cabinet by Tánaiste Leo Varadkar today. The new bill would provide a “minimum” level of protection to employees who had no entitlement to a company sick pay scheme.

 

Cabinet is also expected to sign off on proposals today to ensure that all renters – including students – won’t have to fork out multiples of their monthly rent amounts when signing a tenancy agreement. Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien is bringing a memo to Cabinet today that will restrict upfront payment demands made by landlords.

 

Meanwhile, The Football Association is set to appoint its first ever chairwoman as Debbie Hewitt received a unanimous nomination from the FA Board to become the governing body's first female chair in its 157-year history.

 

It’s D-Day for some 55,000 students around the country today as the Leaving Certificate examinations get underway. Some 61,500 candidates are entered for this year’s Leaving Certificate, between both written examinations and Accredited Grades.

I recently discovered that the pasta brand Barilla has its own Spotify account with curated playlists that last for the exact amount of time it takes to cook each type of pasta so you don’t have to set a timer and are simultaneously entertained during the course of your pasta-cooking. With playlists such as Top Hits Spaghetti and Simply Classics Linguine this is one Spotify account I didn’t know I needed to follow.
