Fórsa members at the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) are currently taking part in a 24 hour work stoppage which will affect operations at six sea fishery harbours - Killybegs, Co Donegal, Ros-a-Mhíl, Co Galway, An Daingean (Dingle), Co Kerry, Castletownbere, Co Cork, Dunmore East, Co Waterford and Howth, Co Dublin. Fórsa have also issued notice of a second industrial action with a 48 hour work stoppage due to take place from midnight Tuesday 25th January to midnight Thursday 27th January. The 18th of March will be marked as a day of remembrance and recognition for those and died and worked through the Covid-19 pandemic. An additional public holiday will be held the day after St Patrick's Day this year but will be at the beginning of February from 2023. Jozef Puska, originally from Slovakia, has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of teacher Ashling Murphy. A second man, arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, has been released without charge. A Garda statement said: “The second male arrested under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 has been released without charge from Garda custody and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.”  

 

As reported by the Irish Times. Data from the Courts Service has revealed that the number of domestic violence charges have doubled since 2019. Only a minority resulted in prosecution while most were struck out, withdrawn or dismissed. 

 

A survey by the Institute of Directors in Ireland indicates that rising inflaion may dent growth during the first quarter of 2022. The survey also found that over a third of bosses have already seen their profits hit by supply chain chaos this year, with nearly half of them worried about more supply disruption during 2022. 

 

Works that have taken place on schools with structural and fire safety defects have cost more than the original €160m construction bill. The Irish Examiner reports that initially it was expected the cost of these repairs would be around €90m.
