Today is UN Public Services Day.

This day provides an opportunity for us to celebrate the workers who provide vital public services, here in Ireland and all around the world.

I am proud of the work our members do every day. It is vital work, that keeps our communities running and deserves respect. Imagining a world without public sector workers doesn’t bear thinking about. Without you, the tapestry that holds society together would unravel. So, today, and every day, we want to thank you.

To celebrate public servants and the work you do, we’re releasing a short video today. Watch and share with your colleagues and friends.

From those of you who keep our city streets clean, to special needs assistants, school secretaries and caretakers, hospital administrative staff, health and social care workers, local authority workers, rescue services, civil servants, and many more, we in Fórsa are proud to represent you.

For UN Public Services Day, the European Public Service Union (EPSU), of which Fórsa is a member, launched its new Public Services Agenda, calling for strong, accessible, and democratically accountable public services to be placed at the heart of Europe’s future.

The agenda calls for a commitment to public investment, fair taxation, and high-quality public employment. You can read it here.

Without your work people living in Ireland wouldn’t be able to access care, infrastructure, education, and support, sometimes at the most vulnerable times in their lives. Thank you.
