The HSE has said it is trying to implement the 3% increase for health care staff in time for Christmas. Forsa's Ashley Connoly described the situation as 'unacceptable to the hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers who have provided invaluable service to this country'.

The Government-appointed investigator into the Cervical-Check controversy condemned as "completely unacceptable" a refusal by doctors to treat women because they were members of a cancer support group campaigning for greater patient discourse. In the final public progress report published yesterday Dr Gabriel Scally said he had been told directly by women affected that they had been treated "like a leper".
