It’s reported that the Labour Court is weighing up the value of a formal intervention in the nurses’ dispute after ‘exploring’ the parties’ positions for eight hours yesterday evening. ICTU’s Patricia King also attended yesterday’s session which, we understand, was initiated by the Court itself but involved no negotiations. Elsewhere, the media focus shifts towards the impact of the dispute on patients. Staying with health, the PNA ambulance staff plan to hold another two day strike - dates yet to be announced.

 

The Examiner reports that a top European academic is warning that Ireland is one of two European countries with a third level education system classified as “in danger” due to the shortfall in funding while the number of students has increased.
