The Irish Times reports on nurses rejection of pay proposals and the increased prospect of strikes, after both the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) and the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) urged members to reject Government pay proposals.

 

The Examiner reports on a joint statement by third level associations, unions and the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) calling for increased investment in the higher education system in this years budget, and warning that future college places could be at risk without action on funding.    

 

The Irish Times reports the designer of the BusConnect scheme Jarrett Walker was surprised by the criticism its received. the National Transport Authority (NTA) has defended the plans after it received over 18,000 submissions ahead of the deadline.

 

Finally, today’s zen is the Beatles 1963 hit ‘Twist and Shout.’ The song re-entered the US single chart on this day in 1986 off the back of its appearance in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, 25 years after it first appeared in the charts.
