Hopeful news this morning as Tony Holohan indicated that restrictions may be eased as we approach February. Speaking at a media briefing he said that the possibility of lifting Covid-19 restrictions on hospitality and other sectors was “all in play” next week when the Government’s public-health advisers meet to consider the impact of the Omicron wave of infections in more detail. 

 

The average salary is set to increase by 5-10% according to the The Morgan McKinley 2022 Irish Salary Guide. The guide analysed pay across several professions and found one of the 'most demanding employment markets of our time' .

 

From the 31st of January undocumented migrants will be ale to regularise their status in Ireland. The scheme will be open to people who have lived in the State for over four years without permission and is set to benefit around 20,000 people.

 

A new Media Commission will replace the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) under a new bill to help oversee online communications. 

Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, launched the bill yesterday, insisting the new body will have real teeth. "It will have a range of compliance and enforcement powers, that includes powers to audit, to investigate, to require provision of further information, and reporting requirements."

 

The silence from Boris Johnson's Conservative party members does not bode well for the British Prime Minister. Johnson apologised to the nation after attending a garden party at No. 10. This led to opposition leader Keir Starmer calling him a man full of shame who had ran out of road. Most notably his conservative backbenchers did not offer Boris any support as some may have expected.

 

Lastly the National Lottery has revealed that the massive jackpot which has rolled over since the 9th of June must be won this Saturday. The 19.06m will be won even if all the numbers are not matched. If this happens a person who matches 5 numbers will take home the money.

The Africa Cup of Nations Group F match between Tunisia and Mali was plunged into chaos on Wednesday after the full-time whistle was blown twice before the 90th minute.
