Fáilte saoránach!

Fórsa rep Jacintha Hayden is quoted in her local paper following up on the Section 39 industrial action last week. Across the water, the resignation of the top civil servant at the UK’s home office sent shockwaves through the system, and Pat Leahy weighs up the costs of Swedish style social democracy in his weekend Irish Times column. It's been a while since the trade union 'beard' quip got an airing.

The weather isn't looking any better this week. Meanwhile, half of working mothers have considered giving up work due to the cost of childcare, and road development holds the upper hand over housing.

It's not often we get a mention in the pages of Hot Press magazine, but the latest edition includes a report that Deputy General Secretary Eoin Ronayne booked U2 to play at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) on behalf of the student’s union forty years ago last Friday, and has shared the original contract for the booking with WIT as the college marks its 50th anniversary. Also reported on WLRfm, where Eoin himself tells the story.

I note that Raymond Connolly, our magazine's resident music critic, would probably approve of Eoin's eventual musical direction on the night in question.

Your Zen this morning celebrates a big week for our colleague Grace Williams. Delighted for you Grace, enjoy the formalities and festivities.

Have a good week.
