About 42,000 people are at risk from flooding in Russian- and Ukrainian-controlled areas along the Dnipro River after a dam collapsed, as the UN aid chief warned of "grave and far-reaching consequences". Ukraine and Russia blame each other for the collapse of the massive dam yesterday, which sent floodwaters across a swathe of Ukraine's war zone and forced thousands to flee.

 

According to data published by the National Cancer Registry, the disruprion caused by Covid-19 has continued to negatively impact cancer diagnoses in 2021. The Director of Advocacy at the Irish Cancer Society Rachel Morrough said  "The Irish Cancer Society is dismayed that our fears of there being a second year of fewer cancers being diagnosed have been confirmed,"

BBC journalists are to stage a 48-hour strike in a dispute over cuts to local radio services in England. The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) said 1,000 of its members will walk out on Wednesday and Thursday.

 

Sixteen flights to Dublin Airport and 15 flights departing the airport, which were scheduled for today and tomorrow, have been cancelled because of an air traffic controller strike in France, according to the live air traffic website, Flight Radar 24. A spokesperson for the DAA, the operator of Dublin and Cork airports, said: “We advise all passengers to stay in contact with their airline if their flight is due to fly through French air traffic control space in the coming days.”
