Fórsa and Tusla will attend talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) today in an effort to resolve a dispute over the staffing of the Rathmines women’s refuge. Fórsa says Tusla has breached the current public service agreement by failing to consult with staff before a decision to outsource the management of the refuge to a separate agency.

 

Members of the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) will today begin an overtime ban as part of its escalating campaign of industrial action over recruitment and retention issues. It follows the first day of strike action by the Irish Nurses' and Midwives' Organisation (INMO), which ended at 8am this morning.

 

The latest 'Raise the Roof' conference took place in Dublin yesterday, which heard calls for an immediate major public house building programme to address the housing and homeless crisis. RTÉ coverage of the conference focussed on Architect Mel Reynolds, who told the event that 'vast amounts' of land are available to tackle the housing crisis, but warned that increased supply had not led to lower house prices in the past, and that private housing is currently out of reach for low and middle-income earners. EU officials are set to visit Dublin for talks on no-deal brexit preparations, While in the UK, the British foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt says Britain may need to delay its exit from the EU in order to pass crucial legislation if a deal is agreed in late March.

The event brought together women activists from around the country to participate in workshops on confidence-building, communications and campaigning, and featured an impressive panel of speakers.
