Our main image (above) links to our report on Fórsa President Ann McGee's speech from the rally in Roscommon on Saturday, which was blessed with fine weather and an amazing crowd of supporters from all over the country. I've included plenty of embedded tweets there to convey the support for our members in Roscommon.

Ann was also profiled in the Leitrim Observer on Friday. Well done Ann.

Shannonside radio reported that hundreds attended the rally, while Jack O'Connor issued a statement supporting our members in Roscommon and the staff of Lloyd's Pharmacy who are in a dispute over trade union recognition.

While Fórsa members marched in Roscommon, it's reported that at least 100,000 people took to the streets in London as part of the largest ever demonstration of support for a new referendum over Britain’s final Brexit deal.

Meanwhile, the extent of bogus self employment in the media industry has become more apparent as the independent review by law firm Eversheds Sutherland found that 106 contractors for RTÉ had “attributes akin to employment”.

It's reported that the entire board of Scouting Ireland is expected to stand down to be replaced in October as part of a major governance overhaul. Staff at the organisation, who are represented by Fórsa, were told last week that they could be placed on protective notice as the organisation now faces a funding crisis.

'Tis the season of the incinerated suburban sausage, and this mishap is a reminder that it's not without its hazards.

As the heatwave (it's official) continues, the Inner City Helping Homeless charity has appealed for donations of suncream and aftersun that will be distributed to homeless people. The group is also setting up hydration points in locations around the city throughout the week to cater for those who are living on the streets.

Elsewhere, violent attacks against nurses in hospitals are rising, a new reports says Ireland has an emerging 'two-tier' asylum system, and Ireland’s only home economics college is struggling to cope with rising numbers of students choosing to train as teachers in the subject.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn and Unite leader Len McCluskey are at odds over the third runway at Heathrow, and Erdoğan's election victory speech in Turkey sets out his (authoritarian) stall.

Your moment of campaign Zen today comes from the world of US politics...don't worry, there's no mention of Putin's pet orangutan in this one.

The number of women running for congressional and Senate seats in this year's midterm elections in the US has surged, and Democrat women candidates are performing very well in the primaries.

One of them is MJ Hegar, a Democrat candidate for the Texas 31st congressional district, challenging tea party Republican John Carter. Her campaign video is a great piece of storytelling, channeling classic Scorsese and some great editing. Well worth a look.
