The Irish Times report this morning that reforming the amount of tax relief on pension contributions could boost exchequer funds by up to a billion euro annually.

 

Economists say 'red-tape' could reduce trade between Britain and Ireland post-Brexit by up to 10% according to new research by the Central Bank. 

 

In the midst of the CervicalCheck scandal, it's now emerged women diagnosed with cancer after getting the all-clear from BreastCheck are not being directly informed about internal reveiws showing their mammogram x-ray was incorrectly read. 

 

Gardaí are now investigating whether killer Mark Hennessy was using dating apps and websites in an attempt to contact potential victims. They've also made an appeal for information as they continue to search for Jastine Valdez's handbag and iPad mini. 

 

There is a backlog in investigating Irish forensic science cases including testing seizures of hardcore illegal drugs as labs are not only not fit for purpose, but simply don't have the capacity for the number of cases they're being presented with. 

 

Today's Zen is the trailer to Irish Oscar nominated animator, Nora Twomey's new film, The Breadwinner. The story follows Parvana, an 11 year-old girl who lives under Taliban rule in Afghanistan in 2001. After the wrongful arrest of her father, she cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy to support her family. Ever so slightly Mulan-esque (which is by no means a bad thing,) you can read the Irish Times' review of it here where it was awarded 4/5 stars. It's in cinemas across the country now.
