Fórsa workers will be taking photos and posting to social media using the hashtag #StandWithPalestine to show our support for people suffering unimaginable hardship in Gaza. We hope you will join us by doing the same. This is a simple act of solidarity and remembrance which can be marked in all workplaces from schools, to hospitals, public institutions, and even by anyone working from home. Whether you take a photo with your coworkers or on your own, add your voice to the call in support of Palestine. You can print these posters and hold them in the photos: Colour posters [ https://forsatradeunion.newsweaver.com/singlemessagetest/1k1nzdq7izp ] Black & White posters [ https://forsatradeunion.newsweaver.com/singlemessagetest/60esrbnbz2q ] Today marks International UN Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, which is why the Irish Congress of Trade Unions is inviting all workers, as well as their families, colleagues, neighbours and employers, to take a moment and remember those victims. Do I have to participate? No. This is a voluntary activity. It should take place during your lunch break or other free time, and you are not obliged to participate. What about visible items that identify my workplace? Events taking place in public settings should be fine. However, if it is unclear whether you have permission from your workplace to use logos, symbols or branding associated with them then you should not include them in your photograph. While there may be no issue with this, we are urging members to err on the side of caution. This event is designed to show worker solidarity, rather than that of their specific workplace. Please also be aware of your own workplace policies with respect to regulations around uniform etc. Why are we doing this? Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza has lasted twenty-one months and resulted in the confirmed deaths of more than 15,000 children and the injury of 34,000. Many more likely lie under the rubble. Many of us have seen the horrifying scenes from Gaza escalate over the last number of weeks as the conflict has entered a particularly brutal stage. Adding to the horror, since the 2nd of March Israel has enforced a total blockade on Gaza, using food as a weapon of war against Palestinians, leading to mass starvation. Last week, Taoiseach Micheál Martin accused the Israeli-Government of "committing genocide in Gaza right now." Fórsa has a proud tradition of speaking out against injustice across the world and in Palestine in particular. Last year's biennial conference saw members bring seven motions on Palestine to the conference floor. Since then, we have sought to give effect to these motions, and our members have not shied away from protesting on this issue, month after month. Our action today forms part of that work. What else can I do? Sign our petition here [ https://forsatradeunion.newsweaver.com/singlemessagetest/sug2ao894oc/external ]. Fórsa have just launched their petition to have services included in the Occupied Territories Bill. The government's legal advice is that services cannot be included in the bill due to EU law. However, Tánaiste Simon Harris said he had "no issue" with a provision in the bill banning trade in services with Israeli firms based in Palestine. So make your voice heard by signing and sharing our petition. Thank you, Kevin Donoghue Director of Campaigns Join a union that wins.
