Following on from the recent protests in Dún Laoghaire opposing refugees and asylum seekers being accommodated in the area, Fórsa’s Dún Laoghaire Rathdown branch are holding a show of solidarity next Monday at 1pm outside the front entrance to County Hall. Lasting no longer than 15 minutes, the branch hopes to send a clear message that refugees are welcome in their community, and that the assault on the home of an elected representative supporting refugees is unacceptable.

 

Government has been urged to intervene in a pay dispute involving thousands of health and social care workers after department officials were accused of cancelling a hearing for the fourth time.

 

On-call firefighters are to strike for a second time in two months over pay and conditions in the service. Read more on that here.

 

Fórsa members in Pobal's 'Better Start' programme have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, up to and including strike action.

 

The Government has announced increased funding for home carers provided by the State.  Read more on that here.

 

And finally, the Land Development Agency has announced that it is seeking expressions of interest from landowners as it plans to purchase privately owned sites to build affordable housing.
