About 25% of the Sun was blocked out in Ireland this morning as the Moon past between it and the Earth.
Skygazers in western Siberia got the best view of the partial solar eclipse, where the Moon obscured a maximum of 85% of the Sun.
The rare celestial spectacle began over Iceland just before 9am and made its way across the Northern Hemisphere, before ending off the coast of India at 2pm.
People were urged not to look directly at the Sun as it can cause serious damage to the eyes, even when a large fraction of the solar disc is blocked out.
Many of those who gathered to observe the phenomenon used a pinhole projector.
That is made by piercing a hole in a piece of card and projecting the Sun on to another piece of card behind it.
