Wrapping up
by Niall Shanahan

Good morning,

Today is the final deadline for lobbying organisations to submit their returns. Fórsa's return was completed last week and included this on the issue of legislation to guard against bogus self-employment. Unusually, it's attracted some press attention.

Elsewhere, following a report yesterday on correspondence between IALPA and Ryanair, the Indo reports that pilots at the airline are threatening to strike.

In the last roundup of conference news, the Indo reports on Friday afternoon's debate on working time, bereavement leave and transitioning to retirement, while the Irish Times and Examiner carried news on the debate on pensions. RTE also reports on these.

Anne Lucey, reporting for the Irish Times and Irish Examiner, reports on the debate on the four conference motions about the 8th Amendment referendum.

On Saturday the Irish Times published an obituary for John F Carroll, former general president of the ITGWU.

Elsewhere, the Irish Times reports that the Minister for Transport is appointing an international team of aviation experts to review “oversight” of the State’s air-sea search and rescue provision.

Your moment of Zen this morning features Hugh Grant in A Very English Scandal – a three-part dramatisation of events leading up to Jeremy Thorpe’s infamous 1979 trial. I watched the first episode last night and it was very good indeed. Written by Russell T Davies and directed by Stephen Frears (now there's a top flight team), it's well worth watching.
