Day two on the picket line

As the nurses take to the picket line for a second day, Ingrid Miley gives an account of the current situation between government and the INMO. Meanwhile, the HSE has warned that emergency departments will come under “extreme pressure” and all mental health services face “significant disruption” due to the strikes.

 

In other health news, it's emerged that the senior Department of Public Expenditure official who was on the board planning the national children’s hospital was appointed in a personal capacity and was not required to report back to his department.

 

Also, The HSE has complained to Google after it was forced to increase its advertising spend on its MyOptions.ie website for unplanned pregnancy services to stop a fake website getting the top hits on the search engine.

 

The latest in Brexit news sees Theresa May committing herself to avoiding a hard border in the North of Ireland as she's due to travel to Belfast "in an attempt to reassure businesses and politicians in Northern Ireland she can break the deadlock in Westminster."

 

Speaking of Brexit, the Irish Times yesterday published this tongue-and-cheek but somewhat comprehensive guide to the whole situation for those of you who may not be following it with a magnifying glass and now struggle with pub talk. Michael O'Leary has committed himself to Ryanair for another five years as the airline reports a €20 million loss in their third quarter of 2018.

 

Kerry Foods is reportedly misleading consumers with chicken labelling. The IFA has called on them to support Irish-produced poultry, as it's believed that chicken sold under the Denny label came from Brazil.

 

And finally, the fourth installation to a perfect trilogy; Pixar released a sneak-peek of Toy Story 4 at the Super Bowl on Sunday night. I will say it's a very cute clip and I'm marginally excited for the film, but it remains to be seen whether or not another movie was needed in what was already a very complete set.
