The general secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Owen Reidy, has called the proposed new anti-strike legislation during a wave of industrial action in the UK “draconian and counterproductive”. MPs backed the anti-strikes bill yesterday that requires key industries to legally ensure minimum levels of service during walk outs in England, Scotland and Wales.

 

Meanwhile, the Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien will seek Cabinet approval today to sign off on a plan to address defects in up to 100,000 apartments in Celtic Tiger buildings.

 

Higher education stakeholders have said that colleges have to face up to emerging AI software such as ChatGPT, which has caused a storm on social media in recent weeks due to its ability to respond to almost any writing prompt.

 

The DAA is set to criticise the recent decision of the Commission for Aviation Regulation to not increase price caps on passenger charges more significantly. According to DAA, the price caps on airline passengers will prevent the hiring of 240 new staff at Dublin Airport. 

In tech, Microsoft plans to cut thousands of jobs with some roles expected to be eliminated in human resources and engineering divisions, according to emerging media reports.

 

And a status yellow snow and ice warning remains in place for most counties this morning. Scattered sleet, snow showers and icy stretches are forecasted for most of the country today as temperatures are to fall to -4 degrees in some places tonight.

A family has been reunited with their pet dog, two years after the beloved animal was stolen. The DSPCA animal charity has shared an emotional video of the moment that ‘Baya’ was returned to her owners over the weekend.


Baya was found in the middle of busy road in Dublin and when a volunteer scanned her microchip, it revealed that she had been flagged as “lost/stolen” two years ago in Galway.
