And here's a listen to what it says in today's papers, which includes the news from last night's BAFTA awards, and the ESRI's latest report on the lives of children in Ireland.

The ESRI data, collected before recent surges in fuel and energy costs, revealed that 10% of children lived in homes that parents could not afford to keep warm. Meanwhile, one electricity supplier has cut its prices, as the Government moves to temper expectations on further cost-of-living measures.

The European Federation of Public Services Employees (EUROFEDOP) were meeting in Dublin at the weekend for their annual seminar, and said that the problems Ireland is suffering with recruitment and poor morale in State bodies is a Europe-wide problem created by individual governments’ efforts to reduce costs. The Journal reports.

Elsewhere, Our ETUC colleague Esther Lynch returned to Brussels yesterday following her expulsion by the Tunisian Government. Esther had been taking part in an anti-government protest organised by the UGTT union.

Zen

With the passing of legendary sports anchor Dickie Davies at the weekend, I was reminded of many a happy Saturday afternoon in the 1970s waiting for Dickie to introduce the wrestling, which itself was a televisual preamble as we waited patiently for that week's instalment of Kung Fu with David Carradine. Not for the first time I'm tapping Liverpool legends Half Man Half Biscuit for this morning's Zen, in Dickie's honour.

Have a great week.

Niall
