Collective bargaining law expected this year
by Niall Shanahan
The new minister for business and employment, Ged Nash, has said he wants new legislation on collective bargaining rights “enacted by the end of this year.” He said a bill was currently being prepared after the cabinet approved the drafting of legislation in May. Minister Nash, who was appointed as a ‘super junior’ minister with specific responsibility for collective bargaining in the recent cabinet re-shuffle, said the legislation would “significantly strengthen the rights of workers in companies that refuse to engage in collective bargaining, while strengthening statutory protection to guard against the victimisation of workers in such companies.”
