Jason Cierans, aged 29, of Mount Nebo Avenue on the northside of Cork city has been a patient of St Vincent’s hospital in Sydney since the attack outside a pub at Bondi Junction on August 22. He was recently moved to the neurology ward.
Friends, relatives, and neighbours have been fundraising in the last few weeks. Mr Cierans is likely to need more treatment, and his family say there is no telling how long it will take him to recover.
His parents, Declan and Stephanie, and brother Jamie remain in Australia in order to support him. His aunt, Fidelma Casey, said Jason was shown the Facebook messages of support and the “tears were rolling down his face”.
An Argentinian national has been granted bail in Sydney over his alleged assault .
Adrian Martinez, 30, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Cierans outside the Tea Gardens pub in the eastern suburb of Bondi Junction. He and another man return to court on October 22.
