  • Dáil na nÓg returns to the Houses of the Oireachtas

    On the 27th March, over 160 delgates from Comhairlí across Ireland met in Dáil Éireann to debate the critical issue of mental health, one of the biggest topics of concern to young people in Ireland, particularly since the pandemic.

    Mental health was identified by over 3,000 young people across Comhairle na nÓg as their priority issue for discussion in advance of today, which they feel that the Government should do more to address. 

  • Seanad na nÓg 2022

    As part of the celebrations for Seanad100, marking the centenary of the first sitting of the Upper House of Ireland’s Parliament, 60 youth delegates from the island of Ireland participated in Seanad na nÓg, a series of sessions in the Seanad.

    Seanad na nÓg convened on 10 November 2022 with delegates from all over the island of Ireland. Delegates debated and discussed five themes selected by young people as being most important to bring before the Seanad.

  • Comhairle na nÓg National Executive 2022-23

    The National Executive has a term of office of two years and meets once a month with the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, and the National Participation Office team in Dublin to progress their topic.

  • Comhairle na nÓg Showcase 2023

    Over 500 young people involved in Comhairle na nÓg gathered at Croke Park stadium on Tuesday April 4 2023 to showcase and celebrate their wide range of achievements and be inspired by a host of speakers and entertainers.

    The event gave the 31 Comhairle na nÓg groups the opportunity to exhibit their work and engage directly with local and national decision makers to inform them about the topics and issues that are important to them.

  • Dáil na nÓg 2022

    Over 200 young people from across Ireland tackled a wide range of issues under the overarching theme of equality at Dáil na nÓg 2022 in Dublin’s Convention Centre.
    This was the 20th anniversary of the biennial event which platforms the voices of young people on the issues which matter most to them.

    In 2019 a debate on public transport saw delegates recommend to Government that reduced fares should be offered to young people.

  • The Journey to the Youth Travel Card

    In 2019, members of Comhairle na nÓg voted on the topic of sustainable transport solutions.

    Their proposal was a Youth Travel Card providing a 50% discount on all public transport systems for all young people up to the age of 23, which they proposed and presented to Minister Roderic O’Gorman and Minister Eamon Ryan.

    Their work contributed to the announcement in Budget 2022 of a Youth Travel Card which can be used to pay for travel by anyone who is 19 to 23 years old, up to their 24th birthday.
