IMPACT News Digest - Wednesday 28th September 2016

Good morning colleagues,

Here's a look at some of today's front pages.

You can listen to Niall Shanahan speaking on Monday's RTE News at One about cutbacks in the library services in Sligo and the introduction of staffless libraries.

Gardaí move closer to securing trade union rights as the Government agrees to the GRA having direct access to future pay talks. Members voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, although the ballot was taken before the new proposals.

Dublin Bus unions are hopeful that talks with management will be productive, as they enter their third day today. Catherine Zappone and Fine Gael are at odds over childcare proposals. Party members are unhappy that the Minister for Children’s scheme neglects the ‘squeezed middle’.

Today's picture and Zen is Patrick Pearse's surrender letter, which goes on public display for the first time. The letter will be on exhibit until it is sold in December at an estimated price of €1.5m.

Enjoy your day.

Patricia O'Mahony
