Fórsa rejects driving test claim

Fórsa has dismissed accusations that driving tests are being unnecessarily postponed on account of bad weather.

Responding to media reports based on a statement from representatives of driving instructors, the union said a small number of tests had been disrupted on foot of Road Safety Authority (RSA) protocols, which are based on professional advice that car windows must remain open throughout driving tests for public health reasons during the pandemic.

Fórsa said this was necessary to ensure the safety of candidates and driver testers, who sit close together – and well within the two-metre social distancing regulation – for almost an hour during driving tests.

Driving tests have been suspended entirely in the UK and Northern Ireland, and in many other European countries, as part of effort to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

The union said extraordinary measures had correctly been put in place – as they have been across the economy and society – to protect the health and safety of candidates and staff, and to contain the spread of the virus, during the global pandemic.

It’s never been more important – or easier– to get the protections and benefits of union membership. Join Fórsa HERE or contact us HERE.
