Safety sought as normal health services resume
by Bernard Harbor

Fórsa is insisting that safe work protocols are put in place in all health settings as the HSE shifts activity back to normal services, with Covid-19 demands being subsumed into the overall operation.

In a meeting with HSE management today (Friday 26th June), the union will seek improvements to a ‘return to work’ draft protocol, which emerged last week.

And Fórsa will be discussing arrangements for the redeployment of staff back to non-Covid services and the filling of gaps in crucial areas like contact tracing.

Most health workers continued to report to their usual workplaces throughout the peak of the pandemic. But the safety protocols were not fully observed, particularly at the onset of the crisis.

Health staff account for over 30% of confirmed cases of the virus in Ireland, and Fórsa has insisted that health protocols agreed for other workers now returning to work are also in place for health staff.

The HSE says it’s is working through a recovery plan for the re-opening of health services partially or fully suspended during the emergency.

It’s never been more important – or more easy – to get the protections and benefits of union membership. Join Fórsa HERE or contact the union HERE.
