Fórsa is to engage with Stobart Air on behalf of pilots and cabin crew who will be operating six new routes out of Belfast City Airport.

The six new regional routes announced yesterday (Thursday) will be operated by Stobart Air. The new services provide flights to Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford and Exeter, with Edinburgh services due to commence at the end of August.

Fórsa official Ashley Connolly said the new routes marked a rare piece of good news for the industry: “These are new jobs in aviation at a time of unprecedented difficulty, so in that sense it’s a very welcome development to see a new base established at Belfast City Airport.

"This is also welcome news as we continue to engage with Stobart Air on minimising potential job losses at the airline. We see a genuine opportunity here for staff to transfer to the Belfast base in order to retain existing jobs at Stobart," she said.

Fórsa official Ian McDonnell is also engaged with Stobart on behalf of pilots at the airline. Ian added "We've confirmed that there will be the option for pilots at Stobart to transfer to the Belfast operation. Up to 48 pilots can avail of this option."
