Fórsa is to set to return to the Workplace Relations Commission to further engage with the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) on the establishment of a job evaluation scheme for workers in local authorities.

The second conciliation meeting will take place on Thursday 20th July 2023.

Earlier this month, local authority workers suspended planned industrial action in an ongoing dispute with the LGMA over their refusal to establish a job evaluation scheme, to allow for further talks.

Fórsa’s Head of Local Government and Local Services Richy Carrothers said the LGMA should be under no illusion of the union’s commitment to resolve this issue.

“We have a strong mandate from our members to deliver on this issue. Both sides have committed to engaging meaningfully and constructively to resolve this dispute over the coming weeks and we will hold management to that. Talks are and will be challenging but management can be in no doubt about the determination of our members to secure job evaluation in the sector. Put simply it is about fairness and equity,” he said.

The union represents more than 10,000 local government and services workers including clerical, administrative, management, technical and professional staff.

The union represents more than 10,000 local government and services workers including clerical, administrative, management, technical and professional staff. Fórsa maintains that local authority workers continue to take responsibility for additional duties and responsibilities assigned to them during the economic crisis, when 10,000 jobs were lost from the sector.
