This month’s ‘Lunch and Learn’ will be of interest to members in the education division, particularly those working as SNAs, as it will cover topics relevant to their roles and professional development. Fórsa’s Skills Academy has invited Access UCC to share its important work in helping the public to understand what assistive technologies are available and how they can be used in education.
During the session that will be conducted online on Friday 28th March, Deirdre Madden, Assistive Technology Outreach Co-ordinator at Access UCC, will take participants through Access UCC’s important work, and introduce them to their ‘Technology to Make Learning Easier’ resource.
The resource is free to access and available online here.
Its video tutorials cover the ins and outs of a wide variety of assistive technologies, including many you may not know you already have access to. In addition, there are tutorials on learning skills and file management. The focus is on simple strategies that can significantly ease learning for students facing additional challenges.
The resource is aimed at educators and post-primary students. Parents of children with special educational needs are also encouraged to use the resource to help them better support their children’s education.
The tool is designed to support students with different needs including literacy difficulties, low stamina/energy levels, physical difficulties, visual impairment, being deaf/hard of hearing, and/or planning and organising difficulties.
Director of membership training and development, Fiona Dunne said: “This is a really important topic. It’s something that can help parents and educators better support children with special educational needs, and help kids become more independent in their learning.”
