An Post is examining plans to relocate its headquarters from the GPO to facilitate an extensive refurbishment of the building which famously served as the headquarters during the 1916 Easter Rising.

It’s understood that the O’Connell Street property needs extensive mechanical and engineering repairs, and employees will be temporarily relocated to another Dublin City-based premises while the construction work takes place.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the organisation was in the process of negotiating a lease on a temporary premises in Dublin’s docklands.

However, head of Fórsa’s Services and Enterprises division Angela Kirk has advised that while discussions surrounding the temporary move are ongoing, no meaningful proposal had been put forward to the union sub-group. The group was established to facilitate consultation with representatives from all three unions representing members in the company (AHCPS, CWU and Fórsa).

“We understand that An Post is still in the process of sourcing accommodation to facilitate the temporary relocation of workers during construction, but no agreement has been reached as of yet,” she said.
