Fórsa’s Municipal Employees’ Division held its annual general meeting last week, April 15th. The AGM, which took place online, considered a range of issues confronting members, including early inconsistent approaches to Covid-19 public health guidelines by some local authorities.
Detailed consideration was also given to Fórsa’s response to Government proposals to transfer 3,000 local government workers to Irish Water.
The head of division, Peter Nolan, commended the committee for advocating for the €500 annual minimum pay increase, which is part of the Building Momentum pay agreement.
"The Muno has consistently argued for flat rate increases when it was not popular. It is a credit to the committee that lower paid workers will now be rewarded," he said.
Thomas Murtagh was re-elected president of the division, with Seamus Kavanagh again taking the vice-president position. Both officers are now also ex-officio members of the union's National Executive.
David Greene was elected secretary, Michael Clarke as treasurer, and Thomas Kavanagh and Michael Ross were elected to the standing orders committee.
