Fórsa has secured a decision that will see its members employed by the Dental Council aligned to civil service pay scales.

Fórsa also achieved an internal re-grading which will see Fórsa members in clerical grades appointed into permanent roles and at a higher grade.

The successful outcome follows a series of discussions with the Dental Council, following an external staffing plan commissioned by the organisation.

Fórsa official Lisa Connell explained: “The findings of the report were that our members were working above their grades and at duties higher to their associated paygrades, and the level at which they were working was not reflected in their pay,” she said.

Lisa said when it became clear that talks with the Dental Council were not making progress, Fórsa referred the matter into the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) from where it made its way to the Labour Court, which deferred the case. “This allowed us to engage through the health oversight body, and substantial engagement followed with both the Departments of Health and Public Expenditure and Reform, and the posts were subsequently sanctioned,” she said.

Lisa added: “This has greatly enhanced the opportunities for our members within the Council and recognises the important and invaluable work they are doing.”
