Fórsa is instructing Local Authority Vets to cease all engagement regarding any proposed transfer to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine as a result of an outstanding industrial relations matter concerning pensions.

Richy Carrothers, head of the union’s Local Government and Local Services division, said that despite the best efforts of the union, the issue remained “protracted and unresolved, with no resolution in sight.”

“Owing to the failure of the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) to resolve this longstanding matter, we have instructed our members working as Local Authority Vets to cease all engagement on any prospective transfer to the Department until such a time that meaningful engagement occurs with Fórsa and progress can be achieved,” said Richy.

“The instruction precludes meetings and requests for critical information pertaining to the transfer process,” he added.

Fórsa representatives had been engaging with the agriculture department on the proposed transfer of local authority veterinary staff to the civil service, and as a result the union was involved in a series of meetings as part of a working group to address staff concerns.
