A pilot scheme, trialling a flexible clocking system, is to commence next week in libraries run by Offaly County Council. The new scheme will provide flexible hours within the working day, though staff won’t be able to work up flexitime as leave.

The trial, which will cover Tullamore library and library headquarters, follows discussions with Fórsa over recent months.

But he said library staff face the same complex combination of childcare and school runs as other local authority staff.

“This is an initiative to allow library staff to have access to flexi arrangements, while still providing the complete range of library services. It’s an opportunity to innovate to improve everyone’s experience, and we will meet with library management in the New Year to review the pilot scheme,” he said.

The flexi pilot scheme defines clocking in and clocking out times and core working hours, with specific arrangements covering late shifts in both locations taking part in the pilot.
